FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MAY 1, 2023
JOINT STATEMENT
MADISON, Wis. – Thirteen organizations across Wisconsin released a joint statement today as the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) plans to remove Governor Tony Evers’ paid family and medical leave proposal from the 2023-25 state budget.
“Wisconsin workers and families deserve to be with their loved ones when unexpected moments arise, but Republicans on the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) are abandoning their needs by intending to strike Governor Tony Evers’ paid family and medical leave proposal from the state budget.
“Governor Evers’ paid family and medical leave proposal would provide much-needed relief to working families, and by removing the proposal from the state budget, families will continue to have to make difficult decisions between their job and caring for their loved ones.
“Our organizations, who represent and work with workers, families and small business owners across the Badger State, are disappointed in the JFC’S plans to strike this crucial policy, which would lift up and empower the individuals who make up the backbone of our economy.”
